Hazardous Ops (1989)
With the sad passing of Windsor Davies, I thought it appropriate to share one of his lesser-known works. This RAF training film has Windsor, in full Army Sergeant-Major persona, telling his Air Force counterparts how (not) to behave in an around a Hardened Aircraft Shelter, or HAS - concrete successors to hangars, ostensibly bomb-, bullet- and rocket-proof, but equally vulnerable and dangerous to the fallible bags of mostly water that work in and around them. Oh, and nowadays we also have things like guided weapons that would find the holes in these things and make bigger holes.
The film points out very serious hazards in a humorous way, but isn't afraid to turn on the gravitas when necess...

OutRun 2006 PC Custom Soundtrack mod
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.11 лет назад
Or, the closest thing to a Girls und Panzer OutRun mod I'm likely to see. Or, to pun it up, Girls und Vetturi. This idea popped into my head this afternoon, and was partially inspired by the many GuP World of Tanks mods, one of which uses the track featured (the instrumental of Yukari Akiyama's image song, "Senshado Koi Uta!"). It's actually very easy to do, and requires only three things: 1) s...
Hackintosh: Tour de Tsuruya
Просмотров 19313 лет назад
As I promised in my underwhelming first boot video, here's a quick runaround the system, with some benchmarks. I'd had the idea for how this video would go a ways back - just a system tour to music, admittedly, but I wanted to use Guru Guru Gravity by Nori Horikoshi, and time the video to fit. Thing is, how do you show off your Hac within five minutes and change? You rattle off benchmarks and s...

Birth of a Hackintosh: The Anticlimax

I'd intended this to be so much cooler. This was taken on 22 January, mere hours after I had wrestled woefully expensive components into a large, heavy chassis and built Tsuruya, my new computer. For those who don't know, a Socket 1366 is a fragile thing, and during fitting the CPU, I thought I'd broken it. Now a bit (read: very) anxious, I continued the build, plugged her in and hoped for the ...
Christmas comes early...
Просмотров 7913 лет назад
This was too cute to not film. My cat, Uzuki, has decided not to wait until Christmas to open her present. :) Serves me right for putting them out early, I guess. If you're curious, she's unwrapping a Pets at Home Animal Print Play Tunnel that I picked up this morning. Strictly speaking. I've filmed my first unboxing. Filmed on a Fujifilm Finepix F30. Edited in iMovie '11 on a Hackintoshed Eee ...
PIF: Fire Safety - Shut It Out (c.1986)
Просмотров 18 тыс.16 лет назад
Easily one of the creepiest fire safety PIFs ever created, and one that gave me nightmares for years. Also, one of my first uses in anger of a TV capture card. Featuring a perverse cat-and-mouse chase (or, small-girl-and-big-tank chase) and a very graphic demonstration of how simply closing a door can hold off even a flamethrower long enough for you to hug your woobie. Or escape, if you prefer....
PSA: Drugs - Under Your Nose (unknown) - Take 2.

A Partnership for a Drugfree America PSA that reminds us that some drugs aren't quite so obvious... drugfreetexas has a copy of this in Spanish. Find them in my Subscriptions. I couldn't find any other upload of the English one. Second try of this, as the first one appeared to have lost audio. Original footage: Quicktime MOV from the PDFA's PSA archive. Exported to AVI before upload.
PIF: Fire Safety - Matches (1996)
Просмотров 23 тыс.17 лет назад
A pre-'Fire Kills' PIF, cleverly (if somewhat creepily) done. Likening kids to moths, the soundtrack depicts at least two kids playing with matches, with corresponding footage of moths around a flame. In both, something gets too close to the flame. Predicable results ensue. Original footage: MPEG file from Night of the Adeaters archive. First upload.

My Grandad was a Sergeant Major in the second world war. He survived too have a long life 98 when he passed. Had a wonderful family which I'm a part of. He would never talk about the war, to painful i think. The only thing he told me about his time was that they use to race the camels and spending time with the wonderful white stallions , in North Africa. Anyway God rest Grandad you are missed 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

What an absolute Star WD was. Full of Welsh character. I fondly remember watching these training vids on my annual GDT ( Ground Defence Training) courses which included the range and the CS chamber. I especially love the 80's sound track to them. That synthesiser sound that they all had just brings me right back to being an 'Erk.

Pretty sure every one of my training Sergeants used to practice Windsor Davies in front of their mirrors, but turning it out on us. Mannerisms, twitches and the lines. They had him down to a T.
